15 Actors Who Foolishly Turned Down Career-Making TV Roles
8. Katie Holmes Was Almost Buffy - Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Katie Holmes was originally approached to play the high school cheerleader turned undead fighter, Buffy Summers for the now defunct WB Television Network. Instead of acting like she was in high school though, Holmes decided that she would rather attend her senior year of real high school instead. Just a year after the fact, Holmes was cast as another lead in a WB show involving high school, this time as Joey Potter in Dawson's Creek. Holmes essentially gave up the chance to beat monstrous creatures to a bloody pulp for kissing scenes with James Van Der Beek. Some say she won. Most would say she probably didn't. Fortunately for Holmes, she stuck in Hollywood and became a part of projects like Batman Begins, Thank You for Smoking and The Kennedys miniseries, which aired in 2011, but there's no doubt that her profile would have been considerably different now if she had started out in Buffy rather than Dawson's Creek, and she possibly wouldn't be as easily mockable as she tends to be. It can't be forgotten that she was also in Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill though. No one can unsee that. Sarah Michelle Gellar went on to play Buffy for a little over six years and followed her success with a couple of live action Scooby-Doo movies and two films in The Grudge series as well, and though her career isn't exactly hitting heights at the minute, she is still fondly remembered as the greatest vampire slayer ever committed to screen.
Hey, I'm Brandon. I love writing and reading and I study journalism, communication studies and business at the University of Rhode Island. My main passions are sports, music, TV, movies and a lot of other things that would take me way too long to write. WhatCulture is a great place for me to express myself so I'm looking to write as much as I can. Thanks for reading my work.
