5. Freema Agyeman

Poor Freema was cast as the follow-up to Rose but was given no discernible personality other than fancying the Doctor. Martha Jones was entirely nice, amiable and reliable for a series before Russell T Davies got rid of her for the far more interesting Donna Noble. Martha was actually better once she left the Doctor. Starring in Series 2 of Torchwood, she was also initially scheduled to appear in Torchwood: Children of Earth with Noel Clarke's Mickey Smith, who Martha married off to at the end of Tennant's reign. Agyeman actually came to the producers attention after playing a part in Series 2 finale Army of Ghosts/Doomsday. She starred as Adeola a member of Torchwood who is assimilated by the Cybermen and dies during the Battle of Canary Wharf. It was later stated that she was Martha's cousin, thus explaining the uncanny similarity. Although it's still pretty weird.
