6. Lalla Ward

Lalla is the only actress to star in subsequent tales as totally different characters (unless you count Peter Purves and his Yankee Doodle Dandy cameo in The Chase). She played first Princess Astra in The Armageddon Factor, the conclusion to the Key to Time Season 16. She had the rare ability of getting on with Tom Baker for more than 10 minutes so when a companion vacancy came up she was quickly hired to play the regenerated Romana. Ward stayed for a couple of years and made the mistake of mixing up art and reality, falling for Doctor Who and marrying him. Just watch City of Death to see a pair who are obviously getting some. Alas, the honeymoon period didn't last long as Baker isn't even able to look at his co-star by their final tales together. Ward's Romana, however, remains one of the best companions and in spin off fiction went on to rule Gallifrey.
