1. Peter Capaldi
Colin Baker isn't the only Doctor to star in Doctor Who prior to landing the big job. Long term fan Peter Capaldi has starred in two Doctor Who related roles before becoming the Twelfth Doctor. He first turned up in The Fires of Pompeii (along with a pre-Amy Karen Gillen) as Caecilius who is saved by the Doctor only after Donna Noble's insistence. In a curious side note, Tracey Childs, who played his wife, stars as Seventh Doctor sometimes companion Elizabeth Klein for Big Finish. Capaldi also starred in the third - and best - series of Torchwood, Children of Earth. As Home Office Permanent Secretary John Frobisher (alas, not a five foot high penguin!), Capaldi gets one of the series most chilling moments when he realises what the invading 456 plan to do with the planet's children - including his two daughters - and goes home and shoots dead himself and his whole family. Apparently, Russell T Davies has an explanation as to why Doctor 12 has the same face as these other two, should Steven Moffat ever want to use it. What did you think of this list? Are there any other actors who have appeared in Doctor Who more than once? Let us know in the comments section...
