2. Colin Baker

A couple of seasons before playing the rude, aggressive and unlikeable Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker showed his versatility by playing the rude, aggressive and unlikeable Maxil in Season 20 dull-fest Arc of Infinity. Maxil is the Commander of the Chancellery Guard on Gallifrey and famously gets to shoot Peter Davison's Fifth Doctor in the first part cliffhanger. In a lesser known fact, Baker was asked to come back to reprise Maxil in The Five Doctors but was unavailable. It's unlikely, had he returned, that he could have gone on to be the Sixth Doctor. Baker isn't the only one from Arc of Infinity who has played another Who character. Leonard Sachs, who played Borusa, was in Hartnell classic The Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve playing Admiral de Coligny, while traitor Hedin was played by Michael Gough, most famous for being the enigmatic Celestial Toymaker.
