15 Best American Horror Story Deaths

The first season of American Horror Story, named for the titular mansion that housed the Harmons and a handful of ghosts, certainly lived up to its name. There were some simply gruesome murders that took place throughout the story, with the likes of Flora's death shocking fans.

Violet Harmon's death however, was a cut above the rest. While other deaths were gory or tough to watch, Ben and Vivian's daughter's was one of the biggest twists of the entire series. No one, neither fans nor Violet herself knew that she had died until a whole four episodes after the fact.

In episode six, with the murder house and everything that came with it proving too much for her, Violet committed suicide in the bath tub. It seemed as though she was saved by Tate however, and she carried on living as normally as she had been, until in episode ten when she found herself unable to leave the house.

American Horror Story took a page out of the Sixth Sense's book, having Violet walk around as a ghost for four episodes without anybody knowing or realising. It was retroactively revealed that her suicide attempt had actually been successful, and that Tate had hidden her body in the basement so that no one would ever find it. Even after eight subsequent seasons, American Horror Story has never been able to match the shock, and brilliance of this moment.
