Plenty of children grow up dreaming of going to outer space, and who could blame them? The vast reaches of the cosmos are incredibly alluring, but if this show teaches us anything, it's that kids and space don't mix.

Taking place in the year 2045, The Orbital Children depicts the events after a collection of youngsters are stranded on a space station following a comet impact. They work together to survive against the constant threats looming over them, like loss of oxygen, decompression and even technological singularity.

Despite the horrible set-up, there's a real beauty to this show thanks to the delightful use of bright colours. The series has a charming sci-fi aesthetic, with simple character designs played against luscious backgrounds and imaginative technology.

It's certainly an anime with flaws, such as the excessive amount of exposition that turn it into a slog at times. But ultimately, this is a touching coming-of-age story that pits innocent kids against unimaginable toil with stunning visual design. So, it's easily worth a watch if you like space survival tales.
