15 Best Anime Of 2022 (So Far)
13. Aharen-San Is Indecipherable
There are times when you want to watch a show that challenges you. But, equally, it's just as satisfying to find a series that lets you switch off your brain and enjoy trivial everyday humour. This sleeper hit anime is an excellent example of the latter.
Reina Aharen is an odd (and tiny) high school student who has trouble with depth perception and being understood in general. However, she soon strikes up a friendship with the equally peculiar Raido, and together they explore a host of funny/wholesome moments.
While most anime work hard to be high-energy, this series takes the opposite approach, going for something best described as chill. There's a muted tone to the character's designs and delivery that turns this show into a deadpan comedy and gives any avid anime watchers a satisfying change of pace.
Also, while the side characters are pretty forgettable, the lead duo of Aharen/Raido are utterly heart-warming, which makes the show exceptionally wholesome. They carry the series on their backs, with the romantic undertones helping to stop the episodic formula from growing stale.
