15 Best Companions In Doctor Who History

3. Ace (Sophie Aldred)

The combustable companion of the Seventh Doctor, Ace had a very troubled childhood leading onto a troubled adolescence. She had a predilection for explosives and had already been expelled from school for blowing up the art room as 'a creative statement' by time she met the Doctor in Dragonfire.

The Doctor became something of a father figure for Ace, who called him Professor. Her fondness for blowing things up, with Nitro-9, which was her own concoction, stayed with her. A particularly famous Ace moment was when she destroyed a Dalek by battering it with a baseball bat in Coal Hill School where the Doctor returned in Remembrance of the Daleks to deal with the ever pesky pepperpots.

Ace never got a proper departure, thanks to the show being cancelled in 1989. Her last episode was the aptly-titeld Survival.
