15 BEST Game Of Thrones Season 8 Theories

3. Varys Tries To Kill Dany

Game Of Thrones Varys Season 7

We are all living in a spider's web and we just don't know it.

Ever since his earliest appearances, it has been very clear that Varys is orchestrating the Great Game and everyone else is just marching to his tune. His allegiance to Dany is pretty much her most valuable asset (since he's in her boat pissing out, rather than the other way around) and it's defined solely by the fact that he sees her as the best candidate to lead. He's all about what's best for the realm, after all, regardless of what that means.

So what happens if and when he finds out that Jon Snow is also an heir? He's already told her that "as long as I have my eyes, I’ll use them" in reference to her being the best choice, and there have been moments that would make him question her. She's shown a fiery temperament that COULD be interpreted as the legacy of the Mad King and that would not be best for the realm.

Jon would likely be Varys' first choice, because he doesn't come with her baggage (including her dragons) and if Dany wins and Jon survives too, Varys will have to take matters into his own hands. His destiny is to die (as Melisandre told him) and what if he does so at Jon's hand having poisoned or stabbed Dany to save the realm from her.

Surely there can be no better final image to his arc than him dying in the full knowledge that he has orchestrated exactly what is best for the realm, even if that means his own death?
