15 Best Sci-Fi TV Shows Of The 2010s

1. Stranger Things

Stranger Things has a reputation for being the very best that Netflix has to offer and that's a reputation that it has damn sure earned.

Set in the sleepy town of Hawkins during the 1980s, the beloved series follows the disappearance of the young Will Byers - an event that rocks the town to its very core, turning the lives of everyone upside down (literally) and revealing a dark secret that lies beyond the barrier that separates their dimension from, well, the other one.

With references to everything from The Goonies to Alien, it's a love letter to just about every major science fiction franchise of yesteryear, but the Easter Eggs aren't even its best use of nostalgia. No, that honour goes to the writing, as it manages to effectively recreate the '80s by evoking imagery and plot developments associated with classic sci-fi flicks in order to drive its own narrative forward.

With some of the best developed characters on TV at its core, Stranger Things is a genuinely gripping and nostalgic tale capable of warming your heart, breaking it and making it race whenever it damn well pleases. And that, more than anything, earns it that larger-than-life reputation. Calling it a triumph wouldn't even do it justice.
