15 Best The Simpsons Songs Ever

3. Your Wife Don’t Understand You

Of all the Simpsons songs that try to be ‘real’ songs, Lurleen Lumpkin’s melancholy ode to the workaday life is easily the best. Two more comedic efforts keep it off the top spot, but it’s more than worthy of its bronze, nonetheless.

Like her song, Lurleen isn’t necessarily the funniest guest character the show has ever had. She’s easily outshone by the likes of Hank Scorpio, Frank Grimes and the already featured Lyle Lanley. However, in terms of the impact she had on the show’s dynamic, she’s one of the most powerful to ever appear.

With her appearance coming in Season Three, she comes early enough in the canon to leave a lasting influence on Homer and Marge. Homer is genuinely enthusiastic about sharing Lurleen’s music, but doesn’t realise Lurleen is attracted to him, or how much his continued association with her is hurting Marge.

Several of Lurleen’s songs could have made the cut, with the bouncy Bagged Me A Homer and much softer Stand By Your Manager brilliant songs too. It’s her original world-weary melody in a rundown bar that really grabs Homer’s heartstrings though, so it has to be the one that gets the nod.
