15 Best The Simpsons Songs Ever

11. Springfield, Springfield

I hear it’s a hell of a town.

Songs in The Simpsons vary between being original melodies and parodies of existing classics. As we enter the top ten, this Broadway parody just misses the cut. However, it’s still a great Simpsons song and the animation is wonderful throughout.

During a bender fuelled by a Squishee made entirely out of syrup, Bart and Milhouse go crazy Broadway style.

There’s not too much to the lyrics, as most of the sequence is instrumental and changing New York, New York to Springfield, Springfield is hardly genius. ‘The stray dogs go to the animal pound’ is chuckle-worthy, if only because it feels so randomly slotted in so ‘pound’ can half-rhyme with ‘down’.

The most memorable part is what’s going on as the music plays. From Bart and Milhouse getting (rub on) tattoos, spitballing at a performance of Cats to Barney taking their ‘magic pixie drink’ and ending up joining the navy, the show pours so many scenes into a minute of footage.

Unlike other songs sometimes just there for laughs or to summarise, Springfield, Springfield is crucial to the plot as Bart wakes from his Squishee hangover to find he’s joined the Junior Campers.
