15 Best The Simpsons Songs Ever
10. Cut Every Corner
Fresh off Springfield, Springfield, we enter the top ten with another fantastic parody. Shary Bobbins is one of many great guest stars in Season Eight, and she brings her bottomless handbag full of songs with her.
Of all those songs, Cut Every Corner just edges out the competition for a tenth-placed finish. These days, parodies on The Simpsons can feel lazy, half baked or wedged in there. Some good ones crop up now and again, but they seem to lack the commitment that this brilliant Mary Poppins homage had.
One of the best parts of this song was how it managed to include every member of the family, moving seamlessly from character to character. The gags were solid throughout, the lines never felt forced and the melody (obviously borrowed from Mary Poppins itself) was incredibly catchy.
Because the episode relies on songs so heavily (which isn’t to everyone’s tastes) and came during one of the show’s highest peaks, it sometimes gets a little lost in the shuffle. Songs like this are a great reminder of just how good the episode was; definitely worthy of extra attention on a rewatch.
