Appeared in: Same Time, Same Place (Season 7, Episode 3) A lot of the demons on the series are simply mindless beasts that Buffy can kick around for a bit to give her a good Slayer workout. Some, however, are monsters of the first degree - utterly vile and revelling in tormenting innocent people. This next entry on our list, Gnarl, definitely falls into that category. When Willow is turned invisible, she falls into the lair of the insidious Gnarl who paralyses her with a fluid he secretes through his long, sharp fingernails. With the witch at his disposal, Gnarl then decides to indulge in his favourite pastime; flaying his victim, removing tiny strips of skin at a time in a bid to make their pain last longer. As evil demons go, Gnarl is high up there - at least most would just kill you quickly. A large reason for Gnarl's success is his look; a skeletal form with discoloured skin and goblinesque features. Liberally borrowing from Lord of the Ring's Gollum he may be (he even speaks in the third person) but that doesn't stop him being one of Buffy's creepiest creatures.
