7. Arthur Cox

One of the few Doctor Who actors to land roles in both the classic and modern eras of the show, Arthur Cox might just hold the record for the longest gap between Doctor Who appearances. He's certainly a contender, at least.

His first role was in the 1968 Second Doctor serial The Dominators, where he played Cully, son of Director Senex, and helped our heroes fight the titular villains.

His second role didn't arrive until a whopping 42 years later, when he played the minor character of Mr. Henderson in 2010's The Eleventh Hour.

In that episode (Matt Smith's debut as the Eleventh Doctor), Amy Pond uses Henderson's car door to trap the Doctor's tie, before cheekily telling Henderson to "go and have coffee" while she interrogates the Doctor about the current goings-on. It's not exactly a huge role, but the look of confusion on Cox's face is absolutely perfect.

He passed away on 9 April, at 87 years of age.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
