2. The TARDIS Blows Up... And The Culprit Is Eventually Revealed In A Passing Comment
Yeah, what was that all about?! The TARDIS was blown to smithereens at the end of Series 5 (as foretold in Van Gogh's painting), thus creating those pesky cracks throughout time and space that subsequently dominated the rest of Matt Smith's tenure, culminating in the Time Lords being able to grant the Doctor a brand new cycle of regenerations. Thanks, boys! Only, amidst his mission to restore the entire universe to its former glory (he basically blew that up, too!), the Doctor seemingly forgot to tell us who had even been responsible for the destruction of his beloved time vessel in the first place. It was the Silence, of course, which Steven Moffat has since personally confirmed. Unfortunately, though, he forgot to actually address it on screen until the last minute so he got Tasha Lem to mention it in passing instead. Hardcore fans would've no doubt worked it out, but God help the casual viewers when it came to answering their remaining unresolved mysteries. That is, the casual viewers who hadn't given up a long time ago.
