3. The Doctor Meets His Perfect New Companion... Who Dies At The End Of The Same Episode
Not many shows could get away with killing off Kylie Minogue in front of the entire nation on Christmas Day but Doctor Who has never been one to follow the rules. As such, the lucky, lucky, lucky Australian pop princess was enlisted as the Time Lord's potential new companion, Astrid Peth, during the 2007 festive escapade, Voyage of the Damned, and it was the start of a beautiful new friendship before she... you know, plummeted to her untimely death in a forklift truck. At least she went out in flames of glory, though, and it's better to have been in Doctor Who - and died in the very same episode - than to never have been in Doctor Who at all. They say that, right?
