15 Greatest BoJack Horseman Episodes Of All Time
11. Downer Ending (Season 1, Episode 11)
The first great penultimate episode, Downer Ending saw a shift in tone for the series. Before this moment, the show had been a clever but typical animated comedy, and it was here the show really found its footing.
After falling out with Diane because of the book she wrote about him, BoJack heads out to write his memoir himself, with the help of Todd, Sarah Lynn and lots of drugs. The resulting episode is one rife with striking animation, symbolism for BoJack's mental state and a series of bizarre fever dreams. The book, of course, is a failure.
The true kicker of the episode comes in its final moment, when BoJack confronts Diane and begs her to tell him he's a good person. The entire story hammers home just how daring the show was willing to be, playing up the laughs with the drug-fuelled bender only to end on with a moment of pure drama. From this point on, the show could only go up.
