Naming Doctor Who's greatest cliffhanger is nearly as tough as ranking the Doctors themselves, as it's no exaggeration to say that any of these fifteen moments could have been rightly crowned top. But, after much deliberation, a decision has been made. After all, the main aim of a cliffhanger is to raise excitement for the next episode. It should make your scream at the screen, demanding that the following instalment be shown right now. And while all of those on this list did just that, none of them managed to et the Doctor Who world in the state that the explosive cliffhanger to The Stolen Earth did. While the very first regeneration was really the only one which could feasibly be covered up and left a surprise to the audience, little over forty years later fans believed they might have done it again. After reuniting with Rose, the Doctor is zapped by a Dalek. Surrounded by his friends, the Time Lord explodes with volcanic energy. He's regenerating! The fevered speculation during the following week reached levels never before seen, with no one sure if this was a real deal regeneration or just a ploy to get us watching the next week. Of course it was the latter, and the Tenth Doctor did not change his appearance thanks to his very handy... spare hand. Yet the aim of the cliffhanger undoubtedly worked and the next episode, Journey's End, is still one of the most viewed Doctor Who episodes ever. The resolution may be underwhelming but for making sure everyone was glued to their seats for the next episode, this has got to be Doctor Who's greatest cliffhanger. Do you agree with this list?
