15 Greatest Performances In Marvel Cinematic Universe TV Shows
6. Simone Missick - Misty Knight (Luke Cage)
I've already sung the collective praises of the Luke Cage cast, and pointed out the strengths of two of its stars. But if you're looking for the show's true breakout performer, then there's only one candidate: Simone Missick.
As Detective Misty Knight, she not only serves Luke Cage's story, but has one of her own running concurrently. And it's thanks to Missick's performance that we really care about it, at least as much as we do Cage's own tale.
Missick imbues all the blaxpoitation elements that come with the character of Misty; the sexual energy and the attitude and the ability to more than hold her own against the men around her. But there's much more to her than that too.
There's also a naivety to the character, as shown by her faith in Scarfe, and a real sense of anger too (like her interrogation of Claire). Missick adds in the layers of vulnerability that help make the character likeable and also feel authentic.
We get to chart the characters growth throughout the 13 episodes, from the tough cop to something more overtly heroic, and it's thanks to Missick we're invested in that journey. Her performance is believable and genuine, and one of the most powerful in the series too.
