15 Mind-Blowing Facts About Prison Break

14. The Same Prison Was Used For Season 1

While some shows may only give a panning shot from the outside before skipping into a set, Prison Break filmed the majority of Season 1 inside the same prison. The Joliet Correctional Centre was closed down in 2002 and the inmates were dispersed among other prisons in the area. The cell blocks, infirmary, and yard were all part of the prison and were all used for the maximum effect of using a realistic setting. However, the prison was only two levels of cells high, meaning a set had to be built in addition to the prison to make it appear to be three. The cells were a tight squeeze to film in, and sometimes walls were removed on the set version to give the cameras room to manoeuvre.
