15 Most Underrated Sci-Fi TV Shows Of All Time

4. The Lone Gunmen

Eventually killed off in an X Files instalment directed by none other than future Breaking Bad show runner Vince Gilligan, the Lone Gunmen were always a tricky addition to Chris Carter's sci fi mega hit.

The comically paranoid trio of conspiracy theorists aided Mulder in his investigations, but their focus was more on government and secret society style shenanigans rather than the paranormal, meaning they had little role to play in the show's monster of the week episodes.

The answer to this issue, of course, was to give the Lone Gunmen their own self-titled spin off series, a lighter but more comically convoluted (though no less tense) X Files style show which remains underrated even by fans of Mulder and Scully, let alone more casual sci fi TV viewers.
