15 Most Visually Stunning Sci-Fi TV Shows
7. Colony
In contrast to all the space-focused franchises we've seen so far, Colony, produced by three separate studios and released between 2016 and 2018 is an often overlooked series.
Set in a dystopian Los Angeles occupied by hostile alien invaders, human are forced to live in a city walled off to stifle the populous and put dissenters into forced labour. We follow the Bowman family, who struggle to get by in their service to the alien overlords. A resistance against the occupiers begins to unfold, with a total of thirty-six episodes to its name. It went on to receive a mostly positive critical reception.
Partially inspired by the occupation of France by Germany in World War Two, the creation of this brutal future Los Angeles was carried out by Batelion Visual Effects and the end result is an often brutal and unforgiving portrayal that anchors the franchise's main hook.
With a combination of spacecraft, towering set designs and a stirring showdown between aliens and humanity, the show made its impact as a more grounded production. The series may have cancelled as of 2018, but it still offers a more gruelling and unforgiving flavour of sci-fi action.
