15 Saddest TV Show Moments Of All Time

6. Buffy The Vampire Slayer - The Body

Futurama Seymour Jurassic Bark
Mutant Enemy

This entry, like Angel, encompasses an entire episode rather than a specific moment, simply because there are too many in this one hour of television to choose from. Widely regarded as the saddest episode of the Buffy canon - and one of the saddest episodes of TV, period - season five's "The Body" tones down the supernatural and the violence and instead focuses on the real-life loss of a loved one.

After coming home to find her mother, Joyce, dead, Buffy must contact the emergency services and then rally her friends together.

The opening, which is directed in one continuous shot by Joss Whedon, sees Buffy in a state of shock as she waits for the ambulance to come, and the rest of the episode shifts focus to her sister, Dawn, and her friends Giles, Willow, Xander, Tara and Anya, as each of them battle their grief.

The most blubber-inducing moment comes when Anya, a former demon with limited understanding of human interactions, gives a speech about how death is stupid and she wishes that Joyce was still alive. It's a moving, tearful and wholly human speech that hits all the right notes.
