15 Star Trek Deaths That Didn't Last

1. Harry Kim - Deadlock

Even getting killed in the line of duty doesn't get Harry Kim an honorary promotion when he's spaced in Voyager's season two masterpiece Deadlock.

With the ship being bombarded with proton bursts seemingly from nowhere, Harry is sucked out into the cold vacuum of space while trying to seal a hull breach caused by the mysterious phenomena. Not only that, but this is a two for one episode with Ensign Wildman's baby also tragically dying minutes after birth.

What transpires is that Voyager has been duplicated and both ships are drawing power from the same antimatter source. Those proton bursts that were damaging the ship were in fact coming from the other Voyager attempting to fix the issue.

With the Vidiians closing in, the two crews pull together but only one ship can survive. In those last few moments before the organ-harvesting Phage-sufferers arrive, the less damaged Voyager's Kim and baby Wildman leap through onto the alternative ship.

The surprise that the damaged ship survives is only second to the fact that this episode manages to reverse two deaths within an hour. The deceased Harry's story would be continued through the Star Trek Online game where he was brought back to life by the Kobali, who were also responsible for saving Ensign Ballard as featured in Voyager's Ashes to Ashes.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
