This season of Star Trek: Prodigy has been so astonishingly replete with Easter eggs, references, and surprise characters — we're talking Captain Tuvix, here, not Wesley and co., of course — that it might be easy to forget to what extent it has innovated.

Season one had already set the benchmark extremely high in terms of creativity, only for two to raise it. As a series, Prodigy has continued to push the boundaries of Trek lore to entirely new dimensions (quite literally), now giving us a previously unknown, and thoroughly menacing, bad guy with the most apt of names — The Loom ('Devourers of All Things').

What began with the eerie shrieks and ghostly whispers of a species that could freeze time culminated in an army of terrifying "cosmic scavengers" come to feed on you until you never existed in the first place. Nonetheless, time might be a bit of a headache, but it has yet to create anything that's a match for Kathryn Janeway. With that, the Loom were always doomed.
