15 WORST Performances In Game Of Thrones

7. Ian Whyte - Gregor Clegane

Euron greyjoy game of thrones
HBO

Three actors played the Mountain in Game of Thrones. Conan Stevens was the first one and he was pretty good, so it's a shame he couldn't have stayed. Unfortunately, he dropped out due to scheduling conflicts and Ian Whyte, who's played a few other characters on Game of Thrones as well, took over.

This was a major casting error. Not only does Whyte not look right for the part (with all due respect, The Mountain really should've been played by a more muscular actor) but he had no screen presence and just read out his lines in a monotonous, vaguely cross voice without ever being intimidating.

Still, this was corrected to some degree when the role was recast again (so that Whyte could play some of the show's giant characters). Icelandic actor Halthor Julius Bjornsson did an OK job as the character from season four onward, although it is still a shame the original actor, Conan Stevens, couldn't have just stayed on for the whole run.
