9. Anita Dobson - Captain Tau
Anita Dobson guested in series six of Red Dwarf. In the episode Psirens, she plays Captain Tau, who according to the fandom pages may or may not have been an illusion.
This cameo also leads to Kristine Kochanski being seen once more, played this time by Clare Grogan. Anita is better known for her role in EastEnders as Angie Watts, and makes her one of several EastEnders actors who appear in Red Dwarf - others may feature later in the list.
Her involvement with Red Dwarf only came about due to the producers wanting her husband Brian May to play the guitar in this episode. Alas, his hands bore too little resemblance to Craig Charles's and the role was filled by Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music. However, the initial discussions with Brian led to Anita being asked if she wanted to play the role of Captain Tau. It's a short appearance, but one so distinctively different from Angie Watts, that it's easy to miss that it's her playing it.
