18 Things You Didn't Know About Game Of Thrones

1. The Ferocity Of The Valerian Taunting

No olde-worlde film or TV show is complete without a good Monty Python reference, and Game of Thrones has a fair share. One of the more obvious ones is Davos learning to read and pronouncing the word Knight as "Ka-niggit".

One of the more subtle and arguably the most genius comes in series four when Daenerys Stormborn and her dragons come to Merreen for the first time. The Masters send out their Champion to face the Dragon Queen's army and a man of her choosing. The Merreenese Champion taunts them mercilessly with Missandei translating, saying Daenerys is a man hiding her manhood in her butt, and they are an army of men without "man parts".

Missandei is a rubbish translator as this is not at all what the Champion says. It is yet another tribute to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The writers of this episode have expertly translated the entire French taunt thrown at King Arthur and his knights into Valerian. So he's actually telling them to "boil their bottoms" and calling them "empty headed animal-food-trough-wipers", among other things.

It's a good thing Daario killed him when he did, otherwise he would have taunted them a second time.
