19 Things That Almost Completely Changed Game Of Thrones

9. Tyrion Would Have Fallen In Love With Arya

In the finished book and TV show, Arya Stark is a sexless character, because she's a child, and even Martin draws the line at that sort of depravity. It also helps her progression from fiery naivety into stone-cold assassin: she has far more pressing matters than anything as trivial as love. Despite being a child though, Arya would have been a captivating character in the original book, as she would have been involved in a love triangle with some shocking ramifications. The first point of the triangle would have seen Tyrion fall in love with her after changing his allegiance to the Starks after burning their home down. As aphrodisiacs go, that wasn't the smartest move and his affections went unrequited. Was It A Good Change? Arya probably wasn't going to be quite as young originally, so it wouldn't have been as odd, but it would have been an inferior decision to removing Arya's romantic spirit altogether and reimagining Tyrion as a wounded romantic whose lost love manifests itself as a penchant for prostitutes.
