19 Things That Almost Completely Changed Game Of Thrones
2. No Red Wedding At All
Martin didn't conceive of the Red Wedding shock until after his initial outline was formed and thus neither Catelyn nor Robb and his new wife (and child) were killed in such stunningly provocative fashion. Instead, Robb was meant to meet his end on the battle field, in conflict with the forced led by Tyrion and Jaime Lannister, though not before maiming King Joffrey. Was It A Good Change? Of course: though Robb suited a warrior's death, the fact that he didn't receive one and was forced to watch the horrific murder of his wife and child before being slain himself was horrendous but beyond entertaining. And the fact that Catelyn had to watch the whole thing before having her own throat slit only improved it more - considering her revival in the books.
