15. 'Rebirth' (Batman Beyond)
Back where it all began, the two-part premiere of Batman Beyond found a unique way to continue the legacy set forth by Batman: The Animated Series and introduced us to a Dark Knight for a new generation.
Set years in the future of the DCAU, it was a completely different beast than BTAS (or indeed any Batman adaptation) as it told the story of one Terry McGinnis - a brave high school student who gets himself into hot water after confronting the gang of Jokers only to be bailed out by the aged Bruce Wayne. And, from there, the pair find a way to make Gotham City safe once more as Terry carries on Bruce's legacy as the Batman of the future.
Far enough removed from the present-day timeline to make its own decisions, the sky was the limit for Batman Beyond - and after this pilot episode, fans were understandably excited to see how it would all pan out.
As first impressions go, this was great.
