4. Butters Stotch

Everyone's favourite punching bag, Butters Stotch has actually also been around since the very start of the show, but was yet to come into the spotlight and win the hearts of fans until he joined the four boys to replace Kenny in season 5.
Butters appeal comes from the fact that he is the most innocent person in South Park and probably the most well behaved, normal little boy a parent could hope for. However, he is treated like the exact oppisite is true. Most fans probably have a soft spot for Butters, always waiting for him to get one over on Cartman or even his parents and finally stand up for himself against anyone putting him down.
Although this fantasy is partly lived out through his alter ego, Professor Chaos, it's still not enough to strike fears into the hearts of his enemies and Butters remains the butt of many of the characters jokes and subsequently causing some of the biggest pity laughs from fans of the show.
