20 Best Superhero TV Show Performances Ever

4. Jon Bernthal As Frank Castle/The Punisher

So many men came before Jon Bernthal's portrayal of Frank Castle, and Thomas Jane, Dolph Lundgren, and Ray Stevenson all left something to be desired. It seemed impossible to bring the character to life and do him justice, so naturally there was some skepticism regarding yet another iteration for Daredevil in the MCU.

However, the character ended up being the single best thing about the show's second season. Not only did the Walking Dead actor have the look down to begin with, he nailed the gruff voice and tone, the no nonsense attitude, and the absolutely ruthless aggression.

Of course, this doesn't paint the full picture of the Punisher as a character. Jon Bernthal had to show off his softer side too, the love he had for his family, and how much he cared about innocent characters like Micro's son. He was a ruthless killer, but he was also a great father and husband, and this iteration captured both the Punisher, and Frank Castle, incredibly well.

It is no surprise that The Punisher was commissioned off the back of Bernthal's performance in Daredevil, and though his own series wasn't quite as captivating as it could have been, the fault certainly doesn't fall at the actor's door. If the MCU decides to re-introduce the character in the future, it will be hard see anyone else take on the mantle after such a show stopping performance.
