For all the reasons we love Jake Peralta, we love Raymond Holt for the exact opposite reasons. The highly strung Captain is a perfect character to counteract the shenanigans of Jake. But just because he's a more serious character, doesn't mean that he's not full of hilarious moments. His ability to make you laugh in the dryest of situations is a blessing and definitely a highlight of the show.

Captain Holt has spent a long time in New York trying to fix the problems with the police department. It hasn't been an easy task for him as a black, homosexual in a toxic work environment. Yet despite all the put downs and setbacks, Holt has never backed down from the challenge. His perseverance is absolutely inspiring and he should serve as a role model to not only the police, but to everyone everywhere.
