From the twisted minds of the creators of Pyschoville, and one half of the League of Gentlemen, it should come as no surprise that Inside No. 9 follows suit in being similarly dark and disturbing. Nor should it come as any real shock that it makes for some excellent television. Series 2 of Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton's anthology isn't perhaps as great as the first - certainly there's no reaching the terrifying highs of A Quiet Night In - but it still stands as one of the best efforts of the year, especially from British shores. The episodes range from a harrowing discovery in the sleeper carriage of a train to a seance, via a witch-trial and a particularly depressing cold call. The standout, though, and one that really elevates this series, is 12 Days Of Christine. Charting the life of Christine, wonderfully played by Sheridan Smith, over the course of a turbulent 13 months, it's another dark tale, but also a moving one.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
