13. American Vandal

Season 1 of American Vandal led with the premise of 'Who drew the dicks?', but became one of Netflix's smartest and funniest Original Series in the process. Season 2 attempted to repeat that trick, but this time turning from dicks to poop.

As the characters themselves remark, poop IS funny. Granted, it might not be quite as funny as dicks, but what American Vandal Season (or rather, Number) 2 loses in laughs it more than makes up for in its portrayal of high schoolers and the social media age we're living in. It's one of those rare high school series that absolutely nails the authenticity of teenagers, made even more impressive by a genuine understanding of how they use social media, and why.

It utilises this to craft some brilliant characters, but also to make for yet another mystery that manages to keep you guessing all while being a pitch-perfect satire of the true crime documentary format. But it's the sheer depth that makes this so good, working on a much more emotional level than the first and really getting into 'whys' of the incidents and the people involved, without trading on some truly gross humour. Netflix may have announced its cancellation, but at least it went out on a high.
