20 Best TV Shows Of 2022

3. Pachinko

Severance Adam Scott
Apple TV+

Soo Hugh's twisting intergenerational drama Pachinko takes place over many years, as one family and the country they inhabit continuously fluctuates around them. Its scope, at once epic, vital and intimate, mixed with its devastating performances and swooning score, makes it the best series to debut in 2022.

At times a sweeping political statement, a portrait of a time rarely depicted on film or TV, and an empowering portrayal of the bonds of family, Pachinko is a rare beast capable of being wondrously bold without losing sight of the deeply personal stories at its centre. It takes big swings, but knows when to focus on the minutiae.

Like many of the great shows on this list, Pachinko's glorious depiction of an evolving South Korea and its people is one destined to stay with you, taking a straightforward story and making it wholly unique. The upcoming second season promises to be something worth waiting for.
