Overdrawn miniseries about con artists and scammers seem to be all the rage at the moment, but unlike Inventing Anna, the Amanda Seyfried-led The Dropout actually works as an affecting piece of storytelling.

Charting the titanic rise and fall of entrepreneur and fraud Elizabeth Holmes, the eight-episode drama benefits from a genuinely exciting story, which digs not only into the failure of biotech company Theranos, but also Holmes' psyche during her final years on top of the world.

It makes for a thrilling and often unsettling watch, but the true takeaway here is surely the lead performances of Seyfried and Naveen Andrews, both of whom work wonders to capture the urgent intensity of Theranos's downfall. The Emmys may already be theirs for the taking.
