The last decade has seen plenty of Sci-Fi shows, but only one has reached the near-classic status of the high-bar left by the Battlestar Galactica reboot...and that belongs to the fantastic The Expanse.
Initially seen as somewhat of an underrated cult show, Syfy axed the title and a massive internet campaign managed to bring it back to life as an Amazon original, with some of the best reviews and ratings of current genre TV.
It's an adaptation of James Corey's book series, in a world drowning with TV aping the big-screen, it refreshingly wears its literal source with pride. This is a thinking man's sci-fi, and it makes zero apologies about it.
It has such confidence in the material that it basically throws you into a myriad of parallel plots without much explanations or narrative hooks. For those patient enough to let things unravel though, you’ll have discovered one of the uttermost gratifying shows currently on air, with fantastic and subtle character arcs infused with high-end production value.
