20 Best TV Shows Of The Last Decade

4. The Leftovers

The Leftovers

Based on Tom Perrota's novel, the premise centres around the harrowing scenario that the rapture has come, but only taken half of the world's population...what is everyone else meant to do?

Anchored by exceptional performances by leads Justin Theroux and Carrie Coons, the initial season was a gripping and emotionally wringing melodrama with uniform stong writing and acting. Yet, more impressive was how the show, with each season, completely reinvented itself, moving to a different location and skirting different genres.

Even better was how the switch-ups managed to not feel like shallow shake-ups and instead move forward organically, carrying the initial themes and motives to different unpredictable places.

The show also marked a slight renaissance for showrunner Damon Lindelof. Moving him away from the guy who ruined Lost and Alien (via Prometheus), and signified him as one of the most unique and interesting voices working in current Television, a trend that has only continued with the recent, and fantastic, Watchmen show.
