20 Best TV Shows Of The Last Decade

5. Game Of Thrones

The Leftovers
HBO

After a divisive last season, this will currently stand as a controversial choice, yet it can't be denied, during its run, Game Of Thrones was not just a TV show, it was literally, the TV show.

Based off of George R.R. Martin's popular book series, A Song of Fire and Ice, the showrunner's David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, successfully adapted the book's thrillingly unorthodox aesthetic. The premise took a familiar fantasy setting, yet played out closer to the grimly unpredictable and ruthless historical dark ages then Harry Potter and friends.

Things began humbly with this mandate, with a show that was essential 'The Sopranos set on Middle-Earth', sporting HBO's trademark slower-paced intrigue and TV production.

As its popularity grew, with audiences eating up the shocking twists and rip-roaring nature of the plot, so did the show's budget, with episodes literally surpassing the scale and excitement of a big-budget movie.

The show was a long and not always satisfying journey, however, it remains one of kind, no matter how you look at it, Thrones is a blinding beacon of TV's last decade's TV shows...for better or worse.
