20 Best TV Shows Of The Last Decade

2. Gomorrah

Gomorrah TV
Sky Italia

This Sky Italia production packs a similar power as City Of God did in the early noughts, revealing a frightening existence hidden away in the ghettos of an exotic land. Specifically, the inner workings of a modern crime syndicate inside the Italian city of Naples.

The days of the fat track-suited Mafioso are replaced by a much more chilling reality; the peach-faced youth turned cold-blooded assassin. Its approach is sobering, as there is absolutely zero sense of glamour given to the lifestyle. Gomorrah’s present-day criminals are more like rats, tearing throats out for cheese.

This story structure only helps accent the unpredictable nature of its characters, as every episode is told from a different perspective, and with no one safe from a swift and brutal murder.

The jarring nature is just as effective with the character arcs, as decent men turn evil, and killers become redeemed, there's a grippingly unrestrained nature to every episode where you're never quite certain what's in store - even from its main cast.

For those turned off by subtitles, it really is your loss, this incredible show represents peak work in a golden age of TV; darkly disturbing but infinitely rewarding.

Do yourself a favour and start watching - immediately.
