20 Big Questions About 2017's Most Hotly Anticipated TV Shows

5. Can They Do It Justice? - American Gods

American Gods Shadow Wednesday
Starz/Empire

Although word on the series has been rather quiet, there's no new show coming in 2017 quite as exciting as American Gods.

An adaptation of Neil Gaiman's epic fantasy, it'll chronicle the brewing war between the Old Gods and the New, with ex-con Shadow Moon at the centre of it all.

Gaiman's novel is a great work of fiction, and long seemed like a potentially excellent TV series. The cast is stacked, starring Ricky Whittle as Shadow and, in dream casting, Ian McShane as Mr Wednesday, with support from the likes of Gillian Anderson, Emily Browning, and Pablo Schreiber.

It should be in safe hands, with Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Hannibal) and Michael Green (whose upcoming screenplay credits include Logan and Blade Runner 2049) creating the show and serving as showrunners.

On the flipside, Gaiman's novel has a huge scope, and with the ambition of this comes a fair bit of risk too. It could be Game Of Thrones, or it could be Under The Dome.
