20 Doctor Who Facts That Will Blow Your Mind

12. Regeneration Was Based On An Acid Trip

Tumblr Mylq1xizjh1qep97yo9 R2 500 Gif Regeneration has come a long way since its inception back in the 1960s where it was such an 'alien' concept that not even the BBC execs quite knew how to put it into words. As such, the process of the Doctor changing his physical appearance was described as "a bad acid trip" during which the Time Lord experiences "the hell and dank horror" commonly associated with taking the LSD drug. That certainly explains a lot about his first few regenerations, which were just downright creepy more than anything else... The show has opted for more 'epic' style regenerations in recent years with the Tenth Doctor's demise (well, his second one) proving to be so explosive that it literally blew the TARDIS to smithereens. We're not in the 1960s anymore, Toto.
