8. Tom Baker Is Officially The Most Watched Doctor
Well, according to the official figures, anyway, and you just can't argue with the statistics (although some of you will still try to!).
Doctor Who's ratings rocketed during the late 70s/early 80s, specifically throughout Tom Baker's acclaimed tenure, and his serial
City of Death, in which an alien called Scaroth attempts to steal the Mona Lisa for some reason, still holds the title of being the most watched Doctor Who episode of all time. Or at least, its fourth and final installment does. The audience peaked at 16.1 million when the story reached its dramatic conclusion on 20th October 1979 and don't believe the naysayers when they claim that people only watched it because ITV was on strike. It's not true and you're not fooling anyone, all right?!
