15. Kate Winslet Was Originally Offered The Role Of River Song
Don't cry, Kate! It's better to have been offered a part in
Doctor Who than to have never been offered a part in
Doctor Who at all, right? It's just a shame she turned it down, really, because an Academy Award winner taking on the role of River Song would've been an almighty sight to behold. It might've even made the character a bit more bearable. Controversial...? Anyway, the actress (who is best known for her roles in
Titanic and... OK, so we all just remember her from
Titanic!) was initially approached to play the enigmatic professor back in Series 4 but rumour has it her agent didn't even let her look at the script because she was against her committing to any fantasy franchise, which is allegedly why she also declined the role of Rowena Ravenclaw in the final
Harry Potter movie. She's apparently changed her tune as of late, though, since she stars in the
Divergent series, but something tells us that Alex Kingston is particularly thankful that she turned it down. Thanks, sweetie!
