20 Most Exciting Fall TV Premieres

20. Happyland

What it's about: Remember when the "M" in MTV actually stood for music? Are we right, or are we right? They might have totally abandoned their modus operandi but the channel has found a new strength in its original programming, including reality hit Catfish and the surprisingly not-terrible small screen adaptation of Teen Wolf. They'll be hoping for something closer to them then, say, the unsurprisingly cancelled likes of I Just Want My Pants Back and that terrible American remake of The Inbetweeners. This dramedy focusses on the staff at a fictional theme park which is totally not Disneyland. For legal reasons. Because said staff do a whole lot of drinking, drugging and sexing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1p-FW5Crf50 Why it looks good: There's a lot of darkness beneath theme parks like Disneyland, something which the happiest place on Earth tends to keep quiet and which we love to make a big fuss about. The writers and actors behind Happyland are mostly newcomers, but the premise definitely has us intrigued, and - despite The Inbetweeners debacle - MTV have brought us some great comedies over the years, from Beavis And Butthead to Jackass to The Hard Times of RJ Berger. An, erm, interesting twist in the pilot could bring something unique to proceedings, too. Whether that'll make or break the show remains to be seen.
