What it's about: Shonda Rhimes is the queen of the guilty pleasure. The latest creation of the Grey's Anatomy showrunner will air directly after her latest hit, political drama Scandal, this time focusing on a strong female lawyer - which we're pretty sure she'll handle, having already brought us strong female doctors and strong female PR types. How To Get Away With Murder isn't a practical guide so much as it is a fictional drama about Viola Davis as Professor Annalise Keating, who guides her law class through some...shall we say interesting practical learning exercises. Like possibly being involved in covering up or solving a murder or something. Exciting! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkb-aBaxkVk Why it looks good: Rhimes doesn't get the respect she deserves. Compared to the critical darlings of the current TV renaissance her shows are a little more trashy, but their entertaining and well written in the manner of the top-level popcorn blockbusters. With the added bonus of boasting much more diverse casts, and appearing on your screen every week instead of once, for ninety minutes. How To Get Away With Murder looks like a piece of enjoyable hokum, and has a pretty neat ensemble cast of early Grey's regulars and (more importantly) Liza Weil from Gilmore Girls. A neat premise which can be twisted a bunch of ways, great cast, good writing - what's not to love but only ever admit to sort of liking?
